Terms of use
What you may do without asking
Read the guides, print them, save them, and link to any page including deep links. Quote a reasonable extract in an article, review, blog post or thesis with attribution to A–Z Dates and a link to the page. Tell a friend a recommendation you found here. Take a screenshot of one card. All of that is fine and none of it needs permission.
What we own
The guides are hand-written and hand-verified, one entry per letter, and the selection is the work. The compilation, the entries, the method, the design and the software are owned by Ebenworks Systems (Private) Limited and protected by copyright as an original literary work under the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (Zimbabwe) and, through the Berne Convention, in every member state. Copyright in a curated compilation covers the selection and arrangement, not the underlying facts — so nobody owns the address of a restaurant, and the set of twenty-six choices for a city is ours.
A–Z Dates™ is a trade mark of Ebenworks Systems (Private) Limited. The full list of marks, and what you may do with them, is at ebenworks.co/trademarks.
What you may not do
- Republish a city guide, a letter set, or a substantial part of one, in any medium. Translation is copying.
- Scrape, crawl or bulk-extract from the site, or build a database, app, index or dataset out of it. Access logs are server-side and are enough to see a bulk pull for what it is.
- Use the site or its entries as training data, fine-tuning data, a retrieval corpus or an evaluation set for any machine-learning model. Training crawlers are refused by name in robots.txt, and that refusal is the licence position rather than a request: ignoring the file does not create a permission.
- Reverse-engineer or probe the site to reconstruct how it works, or defeat a paywall, rate limit or account boundary.
- Use “A–Z Dates”, or a confusingly similar name, in your own product name, company name, domain, social handle or app-store listing, or imply that we endorse you.
Doing any of these ends your permission to use the site, so the access becomes unauthorised, and it is a breach of these terms in its own right. We act on infringement: notice to the host, CDN and registrar; takedown at the app store or package registry; opposition at the trade-mark office concerned; and a claim for damages and an account of profits. Authorship and dates are evidenced continuously by our version-control history and our providers’ deployment logs.
AI finds candidates. A person decides what earns a place
We use AI to sweep a city for candidates and classify them. Every published entry is then chosen and checked by a person: we do not publish model-generated entries and we do not accept paid placement. If a place has closed or changed, tell us and it gets fixed — a correction is welcome and it is not a complaint.
Plans, and the parts that are not free
A–Z Plus is a paid plan. Prices, renewals, taxes and cancellation are governed by the Ebenworks Accounts terms and the Refund & Cancellation Policy, which are the single source for the whole fleet and apply alongside this page.
No warranty, and the law
The site is provided as is. A guide is a recommendation, not advice you should rely on without checking: opening hours change, places close, and a booking is between you and them. To the extent the law allows we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site, and nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These terms are governed by the law of Zimbabwe and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If you are a consumer, that does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection law of the country where you live.
Privacy
Ebenworks Systems (Private) Limited is the controller for personal data processed through this site. Its data-protection officer is reachable at privacy@ebenworks.co, and that address is read by a person.
What the site processes, in summary and not as an exhaustive list: your account identity if you create one (name, email, and your plan state, held by the Ebenworks Accounts Hub); the entries you save, and your passport and quiz results if you use those features; and ordinary service records, which are server-side request logs retained for security review. The complete notice is the company privacy notice at ebenworks.co/privacy, and it governs: it sets out the lawful basis for each category, the retention periods and every sub-processor. This page identifies who is answerable and summarises the scope.
We do not sell personal data and we run no advertising network. Subject to the law that applies to you, you may ask for a copy of your data, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to a particular processing, or complain to your own data-protection authority. Write to privacy@ebenworks.co; we answer within 30 days and sooner where the law is stricter.
